FAQs

  • The publishing industry continues to face significant challenges regarding BIPoC representation. According to Lee & Low’s 2024 Diversity Baseline Survey, 72.5% of industry professionals identify as white. Similarly, Publishers Weekly’s 2024 annual salary and jobs survey reported that 76% of the industry identifies as white. As an ongoing response to these circumstances, Inkluded focuses its mission on BIPoC inclusivity within the field.

  • By offering Inkluded Academy free of charge, we ensure that financial barriers do not hinder access to our opportunities. Further still, to encourage participation, we provide our matriculants with stipends. This approach distinguishes our program from other institutions that offer similar publishing courses at a prohibitive cost.

  • Inkluded Academy offers comprehensive training across various professional publishing tracks, including agenting, editorial, contracts, royalties, publicity, marketing, sales, managing editorial, production, subsidiary rights, and scouting. Furthermore, the program provides hands-on instruction in resume creation, cover letter writing, and interviewing techniques. Academy participants gain a clear and thorough understanding of the specific skills and expectations required for assistant-level roles.

  • Each matriculant is paired with a mentor who provides guidance, assistance with assignments, and support throughout the job search process.

  • Inkluded Academy is a hybrid program. Saturday and Thursday classes are conducted virtually. Orientation and Capstone are mandatory in-person events that take place in New York City.

  • The publishing industry continues to prioritize applicants available for in-person work in New York City. Interested parties living outside this area are encouraged to join our mailing list to receive information on other ways to participate in the Inkluded community.
